EBay iPad app problem

Installed the eBay iPad app and found it very useful. A quick way to search, watch and bid for items. Not too much peripheral rubbish to distract your attention.

So all set to buy a mini mac, a buy now item, that required immediate payment on Paypal. Went through the usual login but Paypal through up an exception. The problem was not the exception. The issue was once back at the eBay iPad app the exception came up with some technical jargon in a window that gave me no way of closing it.

Went round the houses but no way to get rid and get back to the normal app pages. So just had to dump the app. No sale, no more app.

Sort yourselves out guys.

iPad needs Flash

Just an update on Flash and the iPad.

I really do need to access Flash content if this iPad is to any use to me. So I looked at my options and came up with iSwifter. This is a browser App for the iPod that uses server side translations of Flash to whatever the iPad will display.

Did it work? Yes and No.

It did allow me to watch a flash video training course for a while. After about 10 minutes it through me out for inactivity. No I did not fall asleep in watching it. Ok, so I paid for the App, not very much but it did stop those annoying pop ups that come up. The problem I have is that it logs you out of the site when it closes and then you have to go back in and reload all that you had previously watched before being able to resume where you left off.

Anyway, it was not really worth going back over so I gave up. Which is precisely what I will do with this iPad if Apple don’t relent soon and introduce Flash.

Still, Xoom is released today and that may be the answer to this problem?

iPad and Flash

Getting along well with iPad and downloading lots of apps that I have seen on the never ending supply of Top iPad Apps lists. Really good experience with the download and install process with backup and sync to iTunes on the Win 7 PC.

Now, how do get to develop my own iPad app. Given that I have an Android phone, Win 7 PC and an iOS iPad I am interested in a development process that would allow me to re-use the code to provide apps for all these platforms with perhaps a central database accessible from the Cloud or just a MySQL sitting on a Web Host account of my own.

Possible candidates for the job that I have looked at were Microsoft Lightswitch/SilverLight, Adobe Flash/Air, Appcelerater and PhoneGap. So I sat down in a comfy chair with my iPad on my lap to watch some of the training videos to see which one would be most suitable.

First mistake. iPad doesn’t run Flash or SilverLight so I could view none of the videos on my iPad. Great start. So back to the desktop for now. Just how long before Apple change their mind and allow for Flash, if ever, isĀ  any ones guess. With Android still well behind the game this could be a while so I won’t hold my breath.

However easy it would be to just stick with Apple for Desktop, tablet and phone, I cannot see this happening as there are too many other reasons to diversify. I suspect this is the same for most people and so Apple will be forced also to diversify.
